Kingshott Earns KMS Another Title
The list of high-profile drivers to drive the WA # 2 Krikke Motorsport car over the past four decades is immense, but on Saturday night at the Perth Motorplex, it was the team’s newest driver, Dayne Kingshott, who drove to victory in the Western Australian Sprintcar Title.
In what was the Krikke Motorsport team’s eighth Western Australian Title win, Kingshott drove outstandingly throughout the marathon feature race, which took over an hour to complete due to numerous stoppages, and the took lead from James Inglis with half-a-dozen laps to go and went on to claim a popular win.
“Winning any feature race is a great feeling, but when it’s a Western Australian Title, it takes that winning feeling to a whole another level,” expressed Kingshott, who had started from position three in the 35-lap feature race.
“It’s awesome to continue our strong start to season with victory in the Western Australian Title, but I can’t say enough about the efforts of the entire Krikke Motorsport team, as they give me a fast hot rod every night, and I’m really happy to be able to start rewarding them for all of their efforts with some wins.”
Krikke Motorsport team manager Ryan Krikke was just as thrilled with Kingshott’s efforts to clinch the eighth Western Australian Title win for the Krikke Motorsport team.
“It’s been a good race to us over time, many of our past drivers – Ron and John (Krikke), Brooke Tatnell, Jamie Veal and Kerry Madsen – have all given our team Western Australian Title wins, so for Dayne to add his name to this list is fantastic,” he commented.
“Dayne did a really good job on Saturday night on a technical track and Matty (Cochrane) had the car good all night. To keep in touch with leader who was setting a torrid pace, hunt him down and pass him the way he did and then change lanes and go on to win by a comfortable margin in the end showed class beyond his experience.
“Dayne is really starting to find his feet in a Sprintcar, and the way he has started this season makes it’s difficult to believe he is only in his third season in one, but what he is doing now on a consistent basis once again highlights his talent as a driver and substantiates my decision to put him in the car in the first place.
“Obviously we were rapt with the win, as we couldn’t have been happier, but that was Saturday night, the celebrations are over, and we are now working hard and focusing on Speedweek and Boxing Night. It’s tough here in Perth on a weekly basis but it’s about to get a whole lot tougher and we need to be ready for it. The competition is about to be the toughest we’ve seen.”
The last occasion the Krikke Motorsport team scored a Western Australian Title success was back in the 2019-20 season with Kerry Madsen, and before that it was Madsen again (2018-19), followed by Jamie Veal (2017-18), Brooke Tatnell (2013-14), John Krikke (1988-89) and Ron Krikke (1983-84 and 1984-85).
As result of Kingshott’s Western Australian Title win, he now joins some illustrious company as winners of title events across both Sprintcars and Speedcars, which includes names such as Robbie Farr (NSW), Adam Clarke (NSW), George Tatnell (NSW), Phil March (SA), Todd Wanless (Qld), John Kelly (Qld), Luke Dillon (SA), Mike Figliomeni (WA), Trevor Green (SA), Chas Calandro (SA), Kaiden Manders (WA), Warrenne Ekins (NT), Phil Herreen (SA) and Johnny Fenton (WA).
Another bonus to come out of the weekend for Kingshott was that he has now moved into the lead of the current Maddington Toyota Series point standings.
Kingshott and the team now have a few weekends off, before they return to the track on December 26 at the Perth Motorplex for the opening USA VS WA Speedweek Series round. To say that Kingshott and the Krikke Motorsport team are in good form heading into the busy Christmas-New Year period would be quite the understatement.
