Season Draws to a Close for KMS
A runner-up finish in last Saturday night’s Krikke Boys Shootout at Bunbury Speedway signalled the end of the 2018-19 season for the Krikke Motorsport team and their driver Kerry Madsen, with the combination having experienced a positive debut season together.
While their campaign wasn’t without its challenges, it was their consistency that saw the Bunbury, Western Australia-based team and Madsen achieve numerous positive results, as evident in last Saturday night’s Krikke Boys Shootout, which is one of the most important events on the team’s calendar.
Getting the night off to the best possible start by topping time trials, Madsen went on to win his opening heat race and placed fifth in the other with some engine woes, before a third-place finish in the gold shootout determined his starting position for the 35-lap feature race.
Wasting no time in making his way to the front of the field, Madsen took over the lead almost immediately and remained there for the bulk of the distance, before a slight mistake in a tricky turn four opened the door for eventual winner James McFadden to clinch first place, leaving Madsen to settle for second.
“We’ve had some chances to win recently and we’ve just come up a little bit short, but at the same time we’re quite happy with the consistency we’ve been able to maintain throughout the season,” explained the four-time Australian Champion, who took out the South Australian Title at Whyalla’s Westline Speedway back in February.
“It’s my first season with the Krikke Motorsport team and while the fit has been pretty seamless, there were bound to be a few teething issues here and there. Overall, it’s been a strong season for us and we’re looking forward to what the future has planned.”
Having now completed the 2018-19 season, the pilot of the WA # 2 Transport Equipment Hire / Pumpa Manufacturing supported Maxim car has returned to his home in America where he has around 60 race meetings ahead of him.
“Kerry and the entire team have put in a great effort this season and there are a lot of positives to draw from our first season together,” stated Krikke Motorsport team manager Ryan Krikke.
“We’ve consistently had strong pace and been in contention for feature-race wins. It’s been by far the toughest season on the road and this is evident by the amount of different winners we’ve seen. It’s just about putting it all together week in and week out. We’ve been able to lay some positive groundwork this season, which we’re hoping to be able to build on in 2019-20.”
