WSS Runner-Up Spot for KMS
While it wasn’t quite the way they wanted to close their 2018-19 season World Series Sprintcar Championship campaign, minor podium finishes in last weekend’s final two rounds at the Perth Motorplex saw the Krikke Motorsport team remain amongst the pointy end of the championship point standings, banking enough points for second place overall.
It’s been a significantly positive season for the Bunbury, Western Australia-based 410 Sprintcar team and their driver Kerry Madsen in which consistency has been the key to remaining towards the top of the WSS point standings.
Boasting a 90 percent rate of finishing feature races inside the top five, having done so nine times throughout the 10 contested WSS rounds, the Krikke Motorsport team also managed to rack up six minor podium finishes during the series, giving them a podium rate of 60 percent, not to mention winning the second series round at Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway.
Sitting just seven points behind first-placed Steven Lines heading into last Friday and Saturday night’s final two rounds, Madsen and the team did what they could to try and staunch Lines’s lead, making numerous changes to the WA # 2 Transport Equipment Hire / Pumpa Manufacturing supported Maxim car as the weekend wore on, but unfortunately their third and second-place finishes weren’t enough to clinch WSS top honours.
“We’d be lying if we said we weren’t disappointed not to win the overall World Series Championship after being so close, but Steven (Lines) was on another level in the final two rounds; we gave it our all but we just weren’t able to catch him,” admitted Madsen, who delivered the team with one win, three runner-up finishes, two thirds and three fourths throughout the team’s WSS Championship campaign.
“We’re still happy with how our season’s gone overall. We’ve always been there or thereabouts; however, being that this is my first season with the Krikke Motorsport team, it was always bound to be a bit of a learning curve.”
Final WSS Championship Point Standings:
1: Steven Lines – 2902 points
2: Kerry Madsen – 2866
3: James McFadden – 2538
4: Rusty Hickman – 2124
5: Mitchell Wormall – 1927
At Sunday night’s WSS presentation dinner, the Krikke Motorsport team was honoured to receive the most ‘best’ awards, including Best Presented Car and Crew, Best Series Quick Time and Best Championship Team – a testament to their professionalism and consistency.
The team and Madsen are now preparing for their final outing together for the 2018-19 season, which is arguably one of the most sentimental on their calendar: the Krikke Boys Shootout. Following a victory in last season’s Krikke Boys Shootout with Jamie Veal at the helm, Madsen is hoping to repeat the victory when he takes to the Bunbury Speedway track this Saturday night.
Krikke Motorsport’s range of 2018-19 season team and Madsen merchandise, which includes hoodies, hats, t-shirts, raglan three-quarter sleeve shirts and kids’ t-shirts, is available for purchase at the track from the team’s transporter. A limited range of stock is also available via the team’s online store at www.krikkemotorsport.store.
