It’s been a solid start to the 2022-23 season for the Krikke Motorsport team and their driver Dayne Kingshott, and that was only boosted at the Perth Motorplex during last Saturday night’s second Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series round when they opened their season winning account.
In what was their second outing of the season, the Krikke Motorsport team and Kingshott were in fabulous form from the beginning of the night through to the end, and Kingshott capped it by romping to his second career 410 Sprintcar victory.
After starting from the outside of the second row in the feature race, Kingshott powered into second within the opening lap, and he then set after leader Callum Williamson. Kingshott was able to keep Williamson within his sights for much of the opening half of the 30-lap event, before Williamson struck some misfortune in lapped traffic and spun out of the lead on lap 13, which saw Kingshott narrowly avoid hitting him as he drove past.
For the restart, Kingshott inherited the lead, and it was an opportunity that he wasn’t going to waste. There were numerous occasions last season, when Kingshott was in the wrong place at the wrong time while in front-running feature-race positions, and it eventually led to him missing out on a better chance to challenge for the Maddington Toyota Series honours.
Kingshott was able to run the top of the Perth Motorplex track for the remainder of the feature-race distance and despite the closing laps feeling like they would go on forever, he was able to take out an impressive win.
“To get a win so early in the season in a massive boost for the entire Krikke Motorsport team, especially for me as a driver, because winning always does wonders for the confidence,” expressed Kingshott, who is currently in his third season with the Krikke Motorsport team.
“Although we had a bit of bad luck in the season opener, we weren’t lacking speed straight out of the box, and the team and I were determined to bounce back and certainly did that in the best possible way.
“To be able to get another win for the Krikke Motorsport team is a massive honour, because you only have to look back at their past drivers to understand that I had some big shoes for fill, even though there was absolutely no pressure from the team as our main goal is to always to have fun, but when you are able to win for them, it’s a great feeling.”
Kingshott started the night by topping the time sheets in his qualifying group (second overall). From there, he ended up third in his heat race and then booked his second-row feature-race starting spot by finishing second in Dash B.
As a result of Saturday night’s win, Kingshott has moved into the top five of the Maddington Toyota Series point standings.
The next appearance on the 2022-23 season schedule is the annual King of Wings, which is a 40-lap race that includes a pit stop, at the Perth Motorplex on the Saturday night of November 19.
